Liver "Brownies"

These make a great treat for dogs. I came up with this recipe, and my dogs just love them!

Ingredients

2 pounds        beef or chicken liver
2 - 4 cloves     fresh garlic
4                     eggs
1 cup              water
1 cup              wheat germ*
1 cup              ground flax seed*
2 cups            whole wheat flour
2 tsp.              sea salt

    Olive oil to grease pan

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake liver for 20 minutes in a 9 x 13 baking pan. When it's done, remove from the
    oven and cool.

In a food processor, finely chop garlic cloves. Add the cooled liver, cut into large pieces, and puree.

Add juices from the liver pan, eggs, water and sea salt. Puree until well-blended.

In a large bowl, combine dry ingredients.

Add the liver mixture to the dry ingredients, and mix until well-blended.

With a little olive oil, grease the baking pan you used to cook the liver. Spread the mixture into the pan.

Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.

Remove from the oven, and cut into small squares. Let cool at room temperature.

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will stay fresh for up to a week. You can also store part of
    the batch in the freezer.

*Or you can use 2 cups total of either the wheat germ or ground flax seed, if one of them isn't available.
